Newt Speaks! SL Quakes!
If, perchance, a person were to be considering a return to active blogging (work + school = no time), could that person ask for a better incentive than Newt Gingrich chatting about Second Life -- in Second Life?

"But let's face facts. It just doesn't matter. [George] Miller 'hopes that Republicans will join the [Second Life] community as well,' but that's not going to happen."
Who said that?
Yes, it took a while, Ed, but it was gratifying that Speaker Gingrich had an audience of both Republican and Democratic avatars and took plenty of questions from both. Sorry we missed you!

Ha! You got me.
There are, in fact, actual Republicans in SL.
Of course, we both understand that former Speaker Gingrich:
- 1. is not a currently serving elected Republican
- 2. is a bit more of a “Free Thinker” than the average politician
- 3. has long been a bit "out there" when it comes to technology (Remember OLPHP? One laptop per homeless person?).
I hope you'll take this response in the good humor it's intended. Gingrich is a Republican, to be sure, but hardly typical.
Just for fun, let's take a peek at the rest of the paragraph you referenced:
“Look around the island. Every pavilion is labeled for a democrat-driven initiative. Unfairness is built-in. One may note that the real Capitol Hill isn't decorated with Republican, Democrat or even Libertarian slogans - nor with a giant 100 hours countdown clock frozen at 42:25 (the ‘official’ time taken to complete the democrats “100 Hours’ agenda). Some of this has been adjusted by now. Links to Republican content are now available, but the context is still a Democrat-defined breakdown of subject area - and that clock is still there. Neutral ground for debate? Not.”
In retrospect perhaps I was wrong in my assessment of the area ... nah, I still think that the original Democrat-leaning design was a mistake. Neutral territory is better for discussion and debate.
Good news for CH 1 & 2 -- memories are short in SL. Many of the Republicans (and Democrats, too) had no presence in SL back when the Capitol Hills were established. They may not even know how imbalanced they were when first established.
I wonder if Newt does...
