Welcome to my occasional ruminations on digital media and its use in journalism and education.

Why "Digital Ed?" Double-entendere. The site is a place for discussion of digital education and my SL avatar's name is Ed. That's it.

Transitional Ed

Where has Digital Ed been for the past few weeks? Looking for a new gig.

I seem to have found it. I'll be signing with Virginia's Shenandoah University, in a joint appointment between the school's conservatory and its communication program (part of the College of Arts & Sciences). What a school.

SU (They beat my alma mater, Syracuse University, to the su.edu domain name) has a sweet conservatory (arts school) at its heart. Conservatories are excellent places to learn the arts, but many forms depend on presence. Theatre, for instance, is generally presented... in a theatre. Part of my gig will be to encourage and help folks push their performance work to online media. What's especially cool is that the existing faculty seems to embrace the transition to digital media.

Naturally, I have my sights set on iTunes U, streaming Web media and a Second Life presence. But, I'm open to suggestions.
