Welcome to my occasional ruminations on digital media and its use in journalism and education.

Why "Digital Ed?" Double-entendere. The site is a place for discussion of digital education and my SL avatar's name is Ed. That's it.

Duke to lose iPod edge?

I'm sitting in the Apple rep's session at the TLT conference and he's just "let slip" about a university that's planning to provide iPones to its freshmen. No problem, right? Ubiquitous computing/messaging/podding, etc. It's probably Duke, famous for (among other things) its iPod experiment a few years ago, in which they gave away iPods to freshmen.

Here's the thing. Duke's presenters, yesterday, said they not only had no plan to adopt iPhones, but hadn't worked out a plan for video yet.

I'm hoping they're just telling a story, but who brags at a conference about not using technology?

If this is true, Duke's "cutting edge" status as a home for digital personal information dissemination/collaboration is about to drop to #2.

C'mon, Duke (I'm kind of a fan)! The price of being cutting edge is having to remain cutting edge. You still have a chance to get back in gear. Let's go.
