Welcome to my occasional ruminations on digital media and its use in journalism and education.

Why "Digital Ed?" Double-entendere. The site is a place for discussion of digital education and my SL avatar's name is Ed. That's it.

SIUC Ethics Test Provokes Lawsuit

If you're in higher education, this one's a must-read. Check out the lead:
Two tenured university professors accused of flouting a state ethics law have filed a lawsuit to reverse a decision that threatens their jobs. At issue is an ethics training program that both Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC) professors completed successfully, but, in the eyes of the state, too quickly.

We've addressed this story before, so I won't drone on about the possibility that academic folks have brains and can probably pass an ethics test without too much trouble, but I will let Prof. Zeman (one of the two profs accused of cheating) explain in his own words (quoted from the IEA release):
We have no problem with the ethics law or the ethics training, but it's ludicrous to suggest that highly educated people cannot grasp, within a few minutes, the nuances of a document prepared by a subcontractor hired by a state bureaucrat.
