Avalon Film Festival 2.0
My compliments to Rivers Run Red. I'm writing this blog entry as my avatar makes his way to the second annual Avalon Film Festival. The 3pointD posting includes this SLurl, which sets your avatar on a path down RRR hallways to a Zeppelin which serves as the festival center.
The path takes you past elegant ads for Adidas (and a sneaker kiosk), Reebok (and another kiosk - this with Reebok's own customization), virtuallife.tv (although the wraparound movie screen didn't seem to produce anything beyond a blue-screen for me) - let's see - more ads: Paramount, Knitting Factory, SciFi Channel & Ninja Tune.
It's very much the airport. There you are (here I am), trying to find the Zeppelin, surrounded by advertising. Perhaps I missed my turn...
Aha! If you reach Adidas, it means you've missed the right turn to the Zep. I did.
Watch out for the walkway. I keep sinking into it.
OK - follow the path (or don't) to the end, sit on one of the red discs (film cannisters), and you'll be teleported to the Zeppelin. I had a rough landing, but it did work.
Wow. The films are a mix of machinima, cartoons - even a documentary I'm watching now. Here's the thing: I really hate the smoke and lighting effects on the main stage. They distract from the films.
Yo - RRR - How about just letting us watch the video, eh?
But seriously, I'm staying for the festival, despite the unfortunate intereference with the videos themselves. The build is imaginative and elegant and worth the visit.
